Roman period

The Roman occupation in Crete brought a period of peace in the island, terminating the civil wars between powerful cities-states and allowing many of them to prosper. During this period, the powerful city of Lyttos was undermined by the flourishment of the city of Hersonissos that gained an advantaged position.

The most important monuments of the Roman period are:

  1. The Theatre
  2. The port
  3. The aqueduct
